Are you sleeping enough?

Skimping on your sleep can significantly hurt your health. After a long work day, you need to sleep for about seven to nine hours a day, but when you start skipping the sleep night after night, it becomes a big problem.

Sleep deprivation may result in various ailments and it has strongly been tied to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, Type II diabetes, depression, and obesity. When you start becoming sleep deprived, your body begins to give you some signs to make you understand that you need some more time in bed.

Here are the top 6 signs which indicate that you are sleep deprived:

After Eating All Day, You Still Feel Hungry

Shortchanging your sleep may make your waistline suffer badly. As per the studies conducted in this niche, the chronic sleep loss disrupts the blood sugar levels and makes the body produce less “leptin”, a hormone that curbs our appetite and more “ghrelin”, the hunger-stimulating counterpart of leptin.

So, when you keep on missing your sleep, you feel more hungry and as a result, become prone to obesity and high blood sugar levels.

Your Immunity Starts Decreasing

Lack of sleep can make you more vulnerable to the infections as compared to those who are well rested. Sleep deprivation weakens your immunity and thus, you start getting cold and flu quite often.

So, if you have been catching a cold once or twice a month, and you are also sleeping less than 7 hours every night, then it’s an indication that you need to catch up on your sleep.

You Become Klutz

Being klutz is a major sign that you are not sleeping enough. One moment you are pouring juice in your glass and the next thing you come to know is that you have spilled all the juice on the table.

Sleepiness affects your ability to balance and precept depth. So, if this is happening to you, it’s time to spend some more time in the bed sleeping, not browsing your phone.

You Start Gaining Weight

When we sleep, our body burns a lot of calories, but when you don’t sleep enough, your body considers it as an emergency and it starts saving calories, slowing down your metabolism rate.

Also, as you feel more hungry while being sleep deprived, it’s natural to gain weight.

You Become More Impulsive

When exhausted, people tend to act impulsively without thinking. So, if you are sleep deprived, you may find yourself saying or doing things which you don’t necessarily mean like ranting at your co-worker or lashing out at your spouse.

You Start Having Troubles Making Decisions

If you have been finding it more difficult than ever to manage your projects at work or even taking the simplest decisions at home, your lack of sleep might be the culprit behind it.

Sleep deprived people find it harder to take decisions, as sleep deprivation affects our high-level cognitive processing and speed.

With the aforementioned signs of sleep deprivation, you can easily identify if you need to sleep for one or two more hours each night. Don’t ignore these symptoms if you have been experiencing them as this may lead to serious health issues.
