Elon Musk’s TED talk from Friday in Vancouver, BC, Canada gave the world a glimpse of his plan to alleviate traffic congestion. Musk describing the work of his yet another ambitious project, The Boring Company, said: “We’re trying to dig a hole under LA, and this is to create the beginning of what will be a 3D network of tunnels to alleviate congestion”.
A video of what the future underground transit network could look like was shown during the talk. The video shows an electric car-skate attached to an elevator that brings the car from street level to an underground network of crisscrossing tunnels. These car-skates are being designed to achieve speeds of 200 km/h or about 130mph.
Musk on Friday tweeted a couple of “boring” tweets about his new project.
On being asked about his motivation, Musk said, “The value of beauty and inspiration is very much underrated, no question, But I want to be clear: I’m not trying to be anyone’s savior. I’m just trying to think about the future and not be sad.”
