The wait is over, almost over, for the fans of bestselling author John Green as they can now get a glimpse of Aza Holmes, a young 16 year old stuck in her own thought spiral. Green’s first release in six years, Turtles All The Way Down is set to hit the bookshelves on October 10, 2017, but the fans can access the first chapter of the book read in full by the author himself on his YouTube channel vlogbrothers.
At the heart of this book about lifelong friendship, the intimacy of an unexpected reunion, Star Wars fan fiction and tuatara, is the young Aza, the most awoke 16-year-old with some anxiety problems, looking for a fugitive billionaire.
The first chapter opens with the line “Man can do what he wills, but he cannot will what he wills” by German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. In a stream of thoughts, the first chapter makes you feel Aza’s struggles with her anxiety. Green has openly talked about mental illness in the past and has even made a video about his struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder commonly referred to as OCD. This resemblance between the author and his protagonist makes this book as his most personal work yet.
John’s beautiful craft reflects in the following line:
“Anybody can look at you, it’s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see.”
Turtles all the way down is available for preorder on all leading book stores.
